Descriptive Paper Due

Before you turn in your papers, print a second copy of your paper. Do the following (write in daybook if needed):

1. Circle 5 coordinating conjunctions. List them in your daybook.

2. Circle 5 subordinating conjunctions. List them.

3. Underline two compound sentences. Chart them in your daybook.

4. Put wavey lines under two complex sentences. Chart them in your daybook.

5. On page 2, circle ALL the commas on the page.
  • Then go back and IF the comma is there because it's a compound sentence, put CD in the margin.
  • If the comma is there because it's a complex sentence, put CX in the margin.
  • Record in your daybook how many of each there are on page 2.
6. Just scanning through the whole paper, find what looks like your longest sentence. Count how many words are in it _______.  How many conjunctions are there in it? ________

  • Is it compound or complex or both?
  • Underline every clause you can see in it, and then try to map it in your daybook using   IC for independent clause and DC for dependent clause.

If you spot any errors while doing this, you may write changes onto the clean copy.

Our next essay will be a cause and effect essay. See page 439.

Homework:

1. Read in Patterns pages 440-449. Be ready to discuss these on Monday.

2. No Brushup over the weekend.
