You think and write about Q. 2 under "Reacting" on page 131.

Think about experiences you have had that could fit number 3 under "Applying" on page 131.

Make a list of possible situations that you could describe in your next paper. You'll be telling us a story that shows you discovering something, seeing something in a new way, understanding something you didn't know before.

OR you can write for number 4 under "Applying" on page 131. You will need to be able to look at this place yourself as you write about it.

The rough draft is due tomorrow.

Chapter Two and More

We do pages 7-14 like we did yesterday.

Now we look at this.  And then read Chapter 2.

You write in your daybook:  describe several ways Kevin's dad solved  problems he faced as a kid with no legs.

What is this family learning during this time?

Now think about you and your family.  Think about learning how to do stuff.  What are some things you know how to do, or that you are still learning how to do, that you could explain and describe for us. Brainstorm a list of what you could write about. The goal is (eventually) a paper of several pages, so you're looking for a topic with lots of potential for information or storytelling.

In Moodle we'll create another forum with those brainstorms in it, so you can give each other ideas.  It's okay to write about similar topics.

After seeing ideas and thinking some more,  take one or two of your ideas and create a list of steps for it;  these are the steps in doing the task.  These are the steps you learned about doing, or it could be the steps you went through in order to learn the task.  Do this within the brainstorming forum.

Homework:

1.  Read pages 17-20 in Brushup, doing the practices.  Then do Test 1 before class.

2.  Read page 244 in Seeing the Pattern.

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Getting Started

1. We look at page 1 in Brushup.

2.  Into your daybook, you check and copy answers from P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6.  Label them as nouns and verbs.

3. We discuss the reading. Thinkwrite in your daybook:  Look over yesterday's Ch. 1.  Copy this sentence into your daybook:

In Chapter 1 of Double Take, Kevin Connolly _____________ .....

You complete the sentence and write some more with it that explain what Chapter 1 was about.

4. You get on the computers, go to our class in Moodle, and try out a discussion forum. Into the forum, you will type what you wrote for the thinkwrite above.  You may change it as you type, if you wish.

Homework:

1.  Finish typing into the forum, if you did not finish during class.

2.  Do from the bottom of p. 7 to p. 14 in Brushup.
